Two years on ……

Today is the 11th of November 2013 – just two years since our first Outer Circle Historic Bus Tour on 11-11-11.

The first tour was conceived to “celebrate” the date of 11-11-11 in a way that all Brummies will instantly recognise – the Number 11 Bus Route – the Outer Circle.

With the support of the Transport Museum at Wythall we laid on a 1953 Birmingham double deck bus to take us around the Outer Circle. We decided to fill the bus with a few friends and some fare paying passengers and keep them occupied with an audio guided tour. With the help of Tesco at Witton we even laid on the opportunity for a “comfort break” half way round.

The Solihull News picked up our story and ran an article which gave us an overwhelming response – in fact we could have filled three buses on the day!

The costs of the tour were met in full by our business and we donated all the ticket money to St Marys’ Hospice in Selly Oak and The Transport Museum Wythall.

So – we still had two bus loads of folk to keep happy and set about planning tours for 2012. We ran three tours around the Outer Circle and another through the Cotswolds taking in a ride on a steam train and the opportunity to see Britain’s tallest fountain in action! In 2012 we donated a total of £600.00 to four charities, St Mary’s Hospice, The GWSR fund to rebuild Broadway Station, Asthma UK and the Transport Museum Wythall.

This year we ran three Coswolds tours, and two around the Outer Circle. Our passengers’ generosity excelled itself this year and we were able to donate a total of £1,300.00 to our charities: Asthma UK, the Macmillan “Coffee Morning”, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, The Birmingham Conservation Trust and the Transport Museum Wythall. We took no expenses from the tours and contributed the equivalent to the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Steam Railway fund to rebuild the bridges on the line to Broadway.

As yet we do not have any plans for 2014, but if you or anyone you know would appreciate the opportunity to ride along on one of our bus tours, have a great day out and help our chosen charities then keep coming back to this web site, or better still contacting us at OuterCircleBus@gmx.co.uk to make sure that you are on our mailing list.
